What Is SuiNS? Sui Name Service and the NS Token

SuiNS (Sui Name Service) is the naming system of the Sui blockchain, letting users register readable names ending in .sui that stand in for long wallet addresses. Each name is an object you own in your wallet, and the project's NS token is used for governance and discounted name purchases.

What is SuiNS?

Sui addresses are long strings of letters and numbers that are easy to mistype. SuiNS maps a short, readable name such as alice.sui to an address, the same idea as the Ethereum Name Service on Ethereum. Apps use it to show names instead of addresses, to send funds by name, and to give users a simple identity in social and messaging features.

SuiNS went live on the Sui mainnet in May 2023. Mysten Labs, the company that created Sui, acquired assets of the earlier Sui Name Service project and develops and supports the service, which is now documented as part of the official Sui developer stack. By late November 2024, nearly 330,000 names had been registered, according to Bybit.

In November 2024 SuiNS launched the NS token and moved towards community governance, with a SuiNS Foundation and a DAO where token holders vote on proposals.

How SuiNS works

  1. Search and register. You search for a name of 3 to 63 characters on suins.io. If it is free, you pay for one year of registration and approve the transaction in your wallet. Shorter names cost more: at the NS launch in November 2024, three-letter names cost 500 SUI, four-letter names 100 SUI and five-plus-letter names 20 SUI.
  2. Own the name object. The name is held as an object in the wallet that registered it. That wallet keeps control even if you point the name at a different address.
  3. Link and set defaults. You choose which address the name resolves to and can set it as your default name, so apps that support SuiNS display it in place of your address. You can also set an NFT you own as the name's avatar.
  4. Renew on time. Names can be renewed for up to five years in total. After a name expires there is a 30-day grace period to renew; after that, anyone can register it.
  5. Build on top. Names can point to a website at yourname.sui.id, and communities can hand out subnames to members.

Key features

  • Readable addresses: send to and display a .sui name instead of a 66-character address.
  • Names as owned objects: names live in your wallet and can be transferred like other Sui assets.
  • Subnames and communities: projects can issue subnames and run community features on top of SuiNS.
  • sui.id websites: a name can serve a simple decentralised website.
  • App integrations: developers can add on-chain or off-chain name resolution to their apps using the SuiNS integration guide.
  • DAO governance: NS holders vote on proposals that shape SuiNS features and direction.

NS token

NS launched on 14 November 2024 with a maximum supply of 500 million tokens. About 275.8 million NS were circulating in October 2026, according to CoinGecko, and the token traded around $0.011, for a market capitalisation of roughly $3.1 million. Its all-time high was about $0.53 on 15 November 2024, the day after launch, so holders have seen a fall of more than 97%.

NS has two main uses: holders can buy SuiNS names at a discount, and they can vote on governance proposals, with locked tokens carrying more voting power. Sui's launch post allocated 10% of supply to a community airdrop for SuiNS name holders, 28% to core contributors and supporters, and 35% to the SuiNS Foundation, with team and investor tokens unlocking over three years after a one-year cliff.

Risks and track record

  • Expiry risk: if you forget to renew, your name can be registered by someone else once the 30-day grace period ends, and funds sent to that name would then go to the new owner.
  • Look-alike names: scammers can register names that resemble well-known projects or people. Always confirm the full address before sending a large amount.
  • Token risk: NS is a small-cap token, down more than 97% from its 2024 peak, with ongoing unlocks adding to circulating supply.
  • Centralisation: SuiNS depends on Mysten Labs and the SuiNS Foundation for development, even as governance moves to the DAO. We found no exploit of SuiNS itself as of October 2026.

Is SuiNS integrated with JewelSwap?

Partly. JewelSwap does not integrate SuiNS names, so you cannot use a .sui name inside the JewelSwap app. However, JewelSwap runs auto-compounded NS-SUI farms on both Cetus and Turbos pools, so users can farm the NS token.

In these farms JewelSwap manages the concentrated-liquidity position and reinvests rewards for you, as explained in our guide to auto-compounding. You can find them in the JewelSwap Sui app. Farming a small-cap token like NS carries impermanent loss and price risk, even with automated management.

SuiNS vs other Sui apps

SuiNS is infrastructure rather than a DeFi venue, so its closest neighbours are the apps that use it. Wallets such as Slush sit at the user end, while DEXs such as Cetus and Turbos host the NS-SUI liquidity that JewelSwap farms. Walrus is another piece of the wider Sui stack, focused on decentralised storage.

  • Sui: the Layer 1 behind the whole directory.
  • Cetus Protocol: CLMM DEX hosting a JewelSwap NS-SUI farm.
  • Turbos Finance: CLMM DEX hosting JewelSwap's other NS-SUI farm.
  • Slush Wallet: Mysten Labs' official Sui wallet.
  • Walrus: decentralised storage on Sui.
  • Momentum: ve(3,3) CLMM DEX on Sui.

Frequently asked questions

What is SuiNS used for?

SuiNS lets you register a readable .sui name that points to your Sui address, so people and apps can use the name instead of a long address. Names can also carry an avatar, a sui.id website and community subnames.

What is the NS token used for?

NS is used to buy SuiNS names at a discount and to vote on SuiNS governance proposals. It has a 500 million maximum supply, with about 275.8 million circulating in October 2026 according to CoinGecko.

Is SuiNS integrated with JewelSwap?

Partly. JewelSwap does not integrate SuiNS names, but it runs auto-compounded NS-SUI farms on both Cetus and Turbos pools, so users can farm the NS token.
