What Is SpringSui? Suilend's sSUI Liquid Staking

SpringSui is Suilend's liquid staking standard and sSUI its first token. How instant unstaking works, sSUI fees and validator setup, and the risks.

What Is SpringSui? Suilend's sSUI Liquid Staking

SpringSui is Suilend's liquid staking standard for Sui, and sSUI (Spring Staked SUI) is the first token built on it: you deposit SUI, it gets staked with a validator, and you hold sSUI, which you can redeem for SUI in one transaction at any time. It launched on 31 October 2024. Two years later it is the largest liquid staking token on Sui, at about $57.5 million on 31 October 2026, per DefiLlama.

If the term LST is new to you, our explainer on what an LST is covers the basics.

What SpringSui is

SpringSui is two things under one name. It is a smart contract standard that any team can use to issue its own liquid staking token on Sui, and it is the brand of Suilend's own token, sSUI. Suilend, the lending protocol built by the team behind Save (formerly Solend), calls SpringSui part of its "DeFi suite" next to the Suilend lending market and the STEAMM AMM. Our Suilend explainer covers the lending side.

The SpringSui docs describe sSUI as "the first LST built using the SpringSui standard." Holders can transfer it, trade it or post it as collateral on Suilend while it keeps earning staking rewards.

The standard builds on two Sui framework changes, SIP-31 and SIP-33, according to crypto.news coverage of the launch. Suilend proposed SIP-33, whose title on the Sui forum is "Allow inactive StakedSui objects to be redeemed immediately." That change is what makes instant unstaking possible.

How sSUI works

When you stake SUI natively, the network gives you a StakedSui object tied to one validator. The SpringSui contract holds these objects on behalf of all depositors and issues sSUI against them.

sSUI is a value-accruing token. One sSUI started at 1 SUI, and its redemption value rises as staking rewards arrive each epoch (about 24 hours on Sui). Your balance stays the same while each token becomes worth more SUI. Haedal's haSUI, Volo's vSUI and Aftermath's afSUI use the same model.

We read the sSUI contract on Sui mainnet on 31 October 2026 (epoch 1297). It held about 64.28 million SUI against about 61.93 million sSUI in circulation, so one sSUI was redeemable for roughly 1.038 SUI. All of that stake sat with a single validator, the one named "Suilend." You can inspect the same LiquidStakingInfo object on Suiscan.

The single-validator setup matters for two reasons. Staking rewards for sSUI depend on how that one validator performs. And sSUI does not spread stake across many operators the way Lido does on Ethereum, which is one of the differences we cover in Lido alternatives on Sui.

Instant unstaking

Instant unstaking is the feature SpringSui is built around. You can burn sSUI and receive SUI in the same transaction, with no queue and no waiting for an epoch to end. Suilend's docs say redemption works for the entire sSUI supply, not just a reserve.

That differs from older Sui LST designs. Some draw instant exits from a limited SUI reserve and charge more as the reserve empties. Aftermath's afSUI, for example, charges between 0.1% and 1% for an instant unstake, depending on reserves, according to its fee docs. Its regular unstake pays out when the epoch ends.

Full-supply redemption also affects the peg. If sSUI trades below its redemption value on a DEX, anyone can buy it cheap and redeem it at the contract for the full amount, which pulls the market price back up. Suilend presents this as a way to reduce depeg risk. It cannot remove it entirely: a contract bug or a paused contract would break the arbitrage.

Native Sui staking is already fairly liquid. The Sui staking docs describe 24-hour epochs and rewards that accrue only for full epochs, and Suilend's own FAQ puts the native unbonding wait at about one day. Instant unstaking saves you that day, which counts most for collateral and liquidations. Our comparison of liquid staking vs native staking goes through the trade-offs.

What sSUI costs

The SpringSui standard defines three kinds of fee: a mint fee on deposits, a spread (performance) fee taken from staking rewards each epoch, and a redemption fee on unstaking. The issuer of each LST sets its own values.

The fee configuration stored in the sSUI contract on 31 October 2026 was:

  • Mint fee: 0 basis points.
  • Spread fee on staking rewards: 0 basis points.
  • Redeem fee: 2 basis points (0.02%), so redeeming 1,000 sSUI costs 0.2 sSUI.

The 0.02% unstake fee matches Suilend's Strategies FAQ. A zero spread fee means sSUI holders currently keep the validator's rewards after its own commission. Issuers can change fees later, so check the app before you rely on these numbers.

Swapping sSUI for SUI on a DEX is another way out. You pay the pool's trading fee and any price impact instead of the redeem fee.

Other LSTs built on SpringSui

Anyone can launch an LST on the standard at springsui.com/create. The creation guide asks for a name ending in "Staked SUI," a unique symbol, fees and a validator set. The name, symbol and icon are fixed after creation. Fees and validators can change, and only the holder of the LST's OwnerCap can change them. The guide recommends a 0% staking fee and a performance fee no higher than 10%, and requires an unstaking fee of at least 2 bps.

The guide shows mSUI, iSUI and kSUI as existing examples. DefiLlama tracks these tokens together as "SpringSui Ecosystem." It held about $0.6 million on 31 October 2026, down from a peak of about $45.2 million on 9 October 2025.

A token built on SpringSui shares the standard's contract code but not its issuer. Each one has its own fees, validators and admin key holder, so an ecosystem LST can carry different risks from sSUI.

sSUI compared with other Sui LSTs

The table compares sSUI with the other liquid staking tokens DefiLlama lists on Sui. TVL figures are DefiLlama's, from 31 October 2026. Fees and exit routes come from each protocol's docs or, for sSUI, its on-chain configuration.

TokenIssuerSui TVL (DefiLlama)Instant exitSlower free exit
sSUISpringSui (Suilend)about $57.5MYes, full supply, 0.02%No separate route
haSUIHaedalabout $35.5MYes, 0.02%Yes, 1 to 2 epochs
vSUIVolo (NAVI group)about $22.9MYesNot described in docs
afSUIAftermathabout $2.7MYes, 0.1% to 1%, reserve-basedYes, at epoch end, 5% of rewards
stSUIAlphaFi (winding down)about $0.7MCheck the app; withdrawals onlyCheck the app

AlphaFi is winding down: Sui Network said on 25 September 2026 that a misconfigured ALPHA oracle had created bad debt, that the Sui Foundation would keep the protocol solvent, and that withdrawals are open. Treat stSUI as an exit-only position and check its redemption status in the AlphaFi app.

Our Sui liquid staking comparison goes deeper on haSUI, vSUI, afSUI and JWLSUI, including how each one picks validators. For the Haedal and Volo tokens on their own, see what is haSUI and what is vSUI.

What people do with sSUI

sSUI is listed on Suilend, so the obvious use is collateral. Suilend also runs one-click Strategies that loop sSUI: deposit sSUI, borrow SUI, stake it into more sSUI, repeat. The docs list sSUI rewards for depositing sSUI and for borrowing SUI as yield sources, plus the staking yield. They also say sSUI rewards are auto-claimed and re-deposited every two weeks, on Tuesdays.

Looping raises your exposure to the gap between staking yield and the SUI borrow rate. If borrowing gets expensive or incentives end, a loop can earn less than plain staking. The Strategies FAQ notes that SpringSui LST/SUI loops use the SUI price feed for both legs, which removes most oracle risk between them. Interest accruing on the debt can still push the position into liquidation.

Risks

Smart contract risk comes first. SpringSui was audited by OtterSec (25 October 2024) and Zellic (14 November 2024), and Certora completed a formal verification in February 2026, according to the SpringSui audit page. Audits lower the odds of a bug. They do not rule one out.

Validator concentration is the second. With all sSUI stake on one validator, a period of poor performance on that validator would cut rewards for every holder. Sui's docs describe the penalty for poor performance as withheld rewards for the epoch. They do not describe slashing of principal.

Then there is admin control. The OwnerCap holder can change fees and validators. That is normal for an LST, but it means sSUI's terms depend on decisions by Suilend's team.

Market risk still applies. sSUI tracks SUI, so it falls when SUI falls. Using it as collateral adds liquidation risk on top. Our guide is liquid staking safe? covers these risks across LSTs.

Where JewelSwap fits

JewelSwap issues a different kind of Sui LST. JWLSUI and SJWLSUI split the job in two: JWLSUI is the base token, backed 1:1 by SUI, and SJWLSUI is the staked variant whose value rises with rewards. Redeeming JWLSUI for SUI through the protocol takes a 10-day unbonding period, during which you hold a transferable claim NFT. That is the opposite trade-off to sSUI's instant exit. Deposits are not open at the time of writing, so this is a description of the design only.

Frequently asked questions

What is SpringSui?

SpringSui is a liquid staking standard on Sui created by the Suilend team. Its first token, sSUI, launched on 31 October 2024 and can be redeemed for SUI instantly at any time.

What is the difference between SpringSui and sSUI?

SpringSui is the standard and the platform. sSUI, or Spring Staked SUI, is Suilend's own token built on it. Other teams have launched their own LSTs on the same standard.

How much does it cost to unstake sSUI?

The sSUI contract charged a 0.02% redeem fee on 31 October 2026, with no mint fee and no fee on staking rewards. Fees can change, so check the app before you unstake.

Is sSUI the same as Scallop's sSUI?

No. Scallop uses the name sSUI for its sCoin, a receipt for SUI supplied to its lending pool. SpringSui's sSUI is a staking token. They are different coins with different contracts.

Which validator does sSUI stake with?

On 31 October 2026 the sSUI contract held all of its stake with one validator, named Suilend. The OwnerCap holder can change the validator set.
