Ask ten crypto users what 'DeFi' means and you will get ten different answers — and half of them will actually be describing CeFi. The confusion is understandable. Both let you earn yield, borrow against your assets, and trade tokens. But under the hood, centralized finance (CeFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) are built on opposite principles, and the difference decides who controls your money, who can see what is happening, and what can go wrong.
